britons prepare to legally hug their grandparents after more than a year of not being allowed

Today marks the next step in the UK’s roadmap out of lockdown, and one of the things that many are looking forward to is being able to legally hug their loved ones who live in a different household – especially grandparents who have been isolating, shielding and generally isolated from their families.

As well as generally being able to hug grandparents after such a long time apart, people can now mix inside in small groups / households, sit inside at pubs and restaurants and meet in larger groups outside. Today marks a long-awaited day for most Britons who have been hoping that this day would come.

bakerdays have seen a clear rise in the number of UK families and residents reaching out to elderly relatives within the family, sending personalised cakes featuring children’s artwork, family photos and cherished memories.

Andrea Guzyova, Founder of Treats and Bites (t/a bakerdays), said:

“For many families, it’s been a long wait to get here. But they can now not only meet indoors but they can also hug their loved ones. It’s going to be an emotional day all round. We’ve loved seeing kids’ artwork being uploaded onto personal cakes over the past year, no doubt going to grandparents and other relatives and loved ones, helping them to feel connected and a part of the children’s’ lives as they grow – we hope that this continues, even though families can now spend quality time together.
